Re-Purposing Family Heirlooms for a Gorgeous New Guest Room
Every once in a while, a project comes along that reminds us why we love what we do — breathing new life into pieces rich with memory and meaning. In our latest Victorian renovation in Surrey, we created a guest bedroom that beautifully bridges past and present, celebrating heritage through the timeless lens of high end luxury Interior Design.
Breathing New Life into Treasured Heirlooms
The undeniable star of this space is a set of silk-embroidered curtains — heirlooms that have graced the family home for over two decades. After careful cleaning (a small miracle given their delicate nature), these exquisite drapes once again take centre stage, infusing the room with character, history, and quiet luxury. Their intricate patterns now hang proudly, reminding us that good design doesn’t always begin from scratch — sometimes, it’s about rediscovery.
Elevating History with Modern Texture
To give this heritage fabric a fresh context within a modern day family home, we dressed the walls in a stunning grass cloth by @phillipjeffriesltd / @phillipjeffrieslondon. Its organic texture adds depth and tactility, offsetting the intricate embroidery and lending the space a subtle modernity. The juxtaposition of traditional silk against contemporary finishes creates an elegant contrast, enabling us to see the value of each more clearly, and as a result we are able to recognise the beauty of each more intensely.
The bed, upholstered in a luxurious green velvet from @zoffanyfw, anchors the scheme with colour and life, while new @vaughandesigns Bordin swing-arm wall lights add a graceful, functional addition for guests.
A Sustainable Approach to Luxury
Beyond aesthetics, this room is a celebration of sustainability within High End Interior Design. Every effort was made to restore and repurpose treasured furniture pieces from our client’s collection. The resulting harmony between old and new brings a sense of authenticity that can’t be replicated through brand-new furnishings alone.
The process was deeply rewarding — an act of preservation, innovation, and storytelling. In every thread, texture, and finish, this guest room captures the essence of Luxury Interiors: a balanced blend of memory and modernity, comfort and craft, sentiment and sophistication.
