We are thrilled to count Jocelyn Horsfall as one of the artists of our Artist Appreciation Initiative. Jocelyn is an award winning fine art photographer, specialising in atmospheric images inspired by flowers and the natural world. She creates contemporary wall art with a painterly and impressionistic style.

Most recently at the prestigious International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) competition, Jocelyn achieved 4 awards with her entries in the ‘Captured at Kew’ category! Kew Gardens, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, is her favourite place to create her impressionistic botanical images – always something beautiful there to catch the eye, no matter what time of year. Jocelyn is particularly fond of the summer months early 8 am entry. If you happen to be there at that time you might spot her playing with the morning light and Kew Gardens great and varied nature scapes.

We are thrilled to share her winning entries with you here:

1. 2nd Place, ’Blossom in the Wind’.This is a double exposure in the camera, where I took one image of a beautiful Magnolia Stellata tree with camera movement for some nice blur, and then a second sharp image of the blossom. To do this image justice you really need to see it up close and personal.

2. Highly Commended, ‘Sparkling Grasses’.
This was an early morning shot, and Jocelyn was lucky that the gardeners had just been watering all the borders with a pressure sprayer, so were covered in water droplets sparkling in the sunshine. She then added another image in processing for some added background colour and texture.

3. Commended, ‘Glowing Curtain’This is an Autumnal image and is the result of a multiple exposure in the camera of a wonderful canopy of colourful leaves from a Weeping Beech tree. Taking one in focus and a couple out of focus created a softer more painterly effect.

4. Commended, ‘Gingko Cascades’Here Jocelyn has used a similar multi exposure technique to capture the magnificent Gingko tree in its full Autumn glory.

Is there space for abstract photography in luxury interior Design?

We know there absolutely is, but as with most things, it all comes down to presentation and pairing. One of the great things about using photography in a home space is that it can be reproduced at a scale to suit the space. The framing is an essential consideration in ensuring that it sits well in the space too and often is what transports an image, or in this case photograph, to the realm of fine art. So, the frame is essential in helping to demand this appreciation.

Congratulations to Jocelyn for what she has achieved with these exquisite images and we look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!
