Cranmer Court, luxury pied-à-terres in the heart of Chelsea

Cranmer Court stands as a timeless Art Deco landmark in the heart of Chelsea, SW3 — a proud building that speaks of an era defined by glamour and architectural grace. Perfectly positioned between South Kensington and Sloane Square, and just moments from the highly salubrious locations of King’s Road and Chelsea Green, this distinguished address is at once vibrant and peaceful.

Conceived in the late 1930s by renowned architect Francis Lorne, Cranmer Court is celebrated as one of London’s fine examples of Art Deco design. A Grade II listed building of exceptional character, its façade showcases the geometric precision and decorative motifs emblematic of the period.

Originally created as luxury residences, the apartments were designed with generosity — high ceilings, spacious rooms, and beautifully considered detailing to the communal areas, creating a sense of space and elegance. Named after Thomas Cranmer; Archbishop of Canterbury from 1533 to 1556, it bears a rich history.

During the Second World War, Cranmer Court was requisitioned by the British government, serving as a base for the Special Operations Executive. After the war, it returned to its original role as a collection of coveted private homes, attracting an illustrious line of residents including Mary Quant, Rosamund Lehmann, and Dirk Bogarde.

In recent years, a sensitive and comprehensive restoration has ensured that Cranmer Court’s finest Art Deco features have been graciously preserved. Buildings like this only survive if the services are meticulously maintained and updated. This is absolutely the case at Cranmer Court, having recently undergone a comprehensive upgrade meticulously managed from 2022 through to 2025.

Today, Cranmer Court remains one of Chelsea’s most sought-after addresses — ideally located and offering a coveted fusion of heritage and modern living. The two luxury apartments that our London Interior Design Studio have worked on here feature captivating views of the London skyline and are now light and airy. Both presented challenging internal features for us to work with and improve upon in order to maximise the opportunity offered by the apartment footprints.

What our Architectural Interior Design Studio has managed to achieve with both of these apartments is outstanding, but particularly the latest renovation which is set on the top floor, and therefore in the eaves. There were many structural challenges to overcome, such as concrete beams and lintels which created a lot of ceiling noise, obtrusive pipework in nearly every corner of the property and a bathroom set into a passageway. Our intervention has meant that the apartment now presents graciously and spaciously. A three bedroom, two bathroom luxury residence fit for our very special clients who have worked tirelessly to afford this very special slice of London skyline.

Don’t take our word for it though, here is what our client’s had to say about their journey with us from beginning to end:

“Lindi Reynolds & Co came highly recommended to us for our Chelsea pied-à-terre renovation, and with our project now complete, we would heartily do the same. We engaged Lindi and her team from beginning to end, as our point of contact to manage all aspects of the project. Highly professional, creative and a pleasure to work with at all junctures. What was particularly impressive was the way that Lindi intuitively worked with our personal circumstance to deliver design solutions that we hadn’t dared to consider. The team delivered a handrail to the flat that is a thing of beauty. Most disability design solutions, work to hi-light the affliction they are dealing with, but in our flat the hand rail does not call our sons differences out. This is a great gift.

With Lindi Reynolds & Co the journey to the end result was a joyful one. The team went above and beyond to deliver an end product that addresses our brief and so much more. This project was a most pleasurable journey. Most importantly, perhaps, our flat is worth infinitely more to us on all levels now than it was at the beginning of the process.”

“When we were considering the purchase of our now beautiful luxury apartment in Cranmer Court, I originally planned to speak to several firms. After meeting Lindi at a flat she had completed in our building, however, we didn’t feel the need to look any further.

What stood out immediately was how genuine and invested she was in the work. It never felt like a sales pitch—it felt like a passion. That confidence proved well-placed throughout the project.

Lindi and her team took on a very tired flat and delivered a complete refurbishment that has transformed it beyond recognition. The level of thought, detail, and execution throughout the process has been exceptional. There were moments early on when I questioned whether buying the property had been the right decision—those doubts are completely gone now.

We feel genuinely lucky to have had them lead this project and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for thoughtful, high-quality interior design delivered with professionalism and care.”
